36 Days of Type is a yearly online challenge that calls designers, artists & enthusiasts worldwide to participate. All the participants produce one letter or number each day over 36 days. I created this series of 3D numbers and letters for the 2021 challenge. The idea was to use very simple, abstract and colourful 3D forms to interpret each letterform in a unique way. The process started by understanding the inherent characteristics of each letterform and deconstructing those to allow space for exploration, either by exaggeration or elimination. It was interesting to see how functional letterforms can quickly transform into abstract shapes and thus celebrate the duality of letterforms.
